꼭 AJAX 와의 문제가 아니더라도, 기본 제공되는 ASP.NET 2.0 컨트롤들의 xhtml 출력을 막을 필요는 없을 것 같습니다. 글에 씌여진 내용대로, 특별한 문제가 없는한, xhtmlConformance mode 를 "Legacy" 로 두지 말고, Strict 나 Transitional 로 명시하거나 아예 없애는 것이 좋겠습니다.
