어느 순간부터 닷넷 응용 프로그램 실행 시 System.Configuration.ConfigurationErrorsException 예외가 발생한다면?

고객사 컴퓨터에서 이벤트 로그에 다음과 같은 로그가 남는다고 합니다.

보는 바와 같이 특이하게, c:\windows\system32에 있는 마이크로소프트 측의 것도 저런 오류가 발생한다는 점입니다.

사실, 이런 경우 비정상적인 [exe_name].exe.config 파일의 내용으로 발생하게 되는데 위와 같이 다수의 닷넷 응용 프로그램에서 문제가 되는 상황이라면 machine.config의 설정에,

C:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v2.0.50727\CONFIG\machine.config
C:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v4.0.30319\CONFIG\machine.config

C:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework64\v2.0.50727\CONFIG\machine.config
C:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework64\v4.0.30319\CONFIG\machine.config

오류가 있을 가능성이 큽니다. 따라서, 저 파일을 정상적으로 복원해 주면 되는데 꼼꼼하게 machine.config을 분석할 수 있는 경우가 아니라면 그냥 기존의 시스템에 있는 default 파일로 덮어 써주는 것도 고려할 수 있습니다.

즉, 위의 경우 .NET 4.0 + 64비트 응용 프로그램들이 오동작하는 것이므로 "관리자 권한으로 실행"한 cmd.exe에서 이렇게 덮어쓰면 됩니다.

c:\> copy C:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework64\v4.0.30319\CONFIG\machine.config.default C:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework64\v4.0.30319\CONFIG\machine.config

그런데 저렇게 default 파일로 덮어쓰는 경우 문제가 될 수 있는 상황이 있을까요? 개인적으로 닷넷 개발자 입장에서, machine.config을 수정하는 경우가 거의 없었지만 만약 특정 응용 프로그램에서 machine.config을 변경하는 작업을 했다면 저렇게 작업을 한 이후부터는 그 응용 프로그램의 동작이 이전같지 않을 수는 있습니다.
